PRACTICAL EXERCISE
1.- Check your network setting. Open the Network Manager applet. Check your IP address, Default Route and Primary DNS. Explain how you have found these parameters.
2.- Explain the meaning of each one of these network parameters.
3.- Check your IPv4 settings. Check your Method of configuration. Explain how you have found these parameters.
4.- What is the meaning of Automatic (DHCP)?. At the moment, is Automatic (DHCP) the proper method for you IPv4 settings?. Why?.
5.- Test your connectivity to the Default Router, the Primary DNS, www.clot.fje.edu and www.collados.org. Explain the process for testing your connectivity. How do you know if you can get connection to a host?.
6- Install the HardInfo i hwinfo software packages. Check the manufacturer's model of your ethernet card. Explain the process for checking the manufacturer's model of your network card.
7.- Check the name of your network card driver using hwinfo and nm-tool. Find your network card driver in your file system. Check if your network card driver is loaded. Explain how you have found these parameters.
8- Disconnect your ethernet network card using Network Manager. Check your connectivty to Internet. Check if you are able to surf on Internet. Explain how you have done these checks. What is the state of the Network Manager icon?
9- Connect again your ethernet network card
using Network Manager. Check your connectivty to Internet. Check if you are able to surf on Internet. Explain how you have done these checks. What is the state of the Network Manager icon?
10- Check your network card configuration from the shell. Write every command that you ran to show your network card configuration. Explain what information gave each command.
11- Check your connectivity with every other computer in your classroom using the ping command.
12- Configure your ethernet network card with the following specifications: a) Configuration method: Manual, b) IP address: from 192.168.1.40 to 192.168.70 (a different IP for each computer), c) IP address of your Router: 192.168.1.1, d) Primary DNS: 80.58.0.33, e) Secondary DNS: 80.58.32.97. Explain the process for configuring your network card using the Manual method.

14- Delete the IP addresses of your DNS servers (See 4 in the Documentation section). Check your connectivity to www.google.cat. Have you experienced any problem?

20-  Check the IP address and network mask of your computer, what is the IP address of your router and what are the IP adresses of your DNS servers. Explain the process for checking your network card configuration.
